There are a few misconceptions when an average person begins an online endeavor. The first and biggest of course is that making money online is easy and offers time freedom. This is what I thought in the beginning of my online business, but found out quickly I must invest a huge amount of time for very little money (at least in the beginning). This is the way it is now a days, you must be willing to give whatever presence you start six months before you really start seeing a payoff for your efforts. There are a couple of reasons why it takes a while before you start seeing the payoff. Google sees hundreds of thousands of presences started daily and they know that the majority will become stale within a couple months. Stale meaning that there is no one taking care of the site such as updating or marketing. The second is whatever niche you choose there will be a large amount of competition which has been around for longer than you and had a huge head start on their marketing campaigns. You should be concerned about catching up during the six months being sure to put in plenty of time to in a way match the time the older website/webmaster has put into their web presence.

The next thing you should be worrying about is making money in your niche. This is not an easy practice and is much more an art than a science. There are many different ways to make money online such as adsense, selling stuff, and affiliate programs. These three things could each make you wealthy and none should be overlooked when you are wanting to make money online. The problem is trying to find which of these is best for you and in quite a few cases I have seen successful people do more than one. Really it will depend on what your niche is and who your target audience is. Let say you built a website on fishing. Now who do you think will want to see your website? Well not to discriminate, but the majority will be mid to late age males who live around water. You will of course get some females and young people, but the majority of fishermen out there are older males who live by water. There is a couple of ways to monetize this audience. The first and personally I think the best way would be to set up a store on ebay and sale fishing equipment. Then you could place links on your site or blog pointing to the store where they would buy and you would make your money. Another good idea to monetize would be to get an affiliate program selling magazines about fishing and place your affiliate link about fishing on your blog or site. Personally I think the worst way to monetize would be adsense, but you may want to test some ads on your site just to see how much you would make it is worth a shot and it may work out quite well. Anyway the point is search out and find the best way to make money with whatever you have built.
